The Welsh
Lifestyle & Mentoring Trips
One of
the biggest driving forces behind the creation of Sports Mentoring was
the belief that many of our young sports players are normally great at
school, excellent at their sports but not so great around the house! In
other words when it comes to cooking, cleaning, making the bed, keeping
the bedroom tidy and making parent or guardian a cup of tea or even a
meal, things tend to go a little less well! The grasp of the 'real'
world could be a little lacking, or some may be great and others could
learn from them.
So we have put together a plan that is
hopefully enjoyable and worthwhile for all parties. Aimed specifically
at young cricketers we are organising trips to the Snowdon region of
North Wales over 3 and 5 day durations, incorporating a selection of the
following activities.
-
Between 8 and 15 hours
quality cricket coaching, dependant on course duration, at a local
venue . Sessions will include video analysis, data recording and
the recording and 'tagging' of outcome, therefore making improvement
measurement possible. Further tactical, mental and lifestyle
sessions will also be included during the stay.
-
Fitness and LTAD work
-
White water rafting / Quad
biking up (and down!) mountains
-
Canoeing / sailing
-
Gorge Walking / Waterfall
Jumping
-
Highropes / Coast Steering
-
Bush Craft / Orienteering /
Mountain Climbing
It all sounds like good fun,
however the sting in the tail is this, although the young people will be staying
in a Welsh Tourist Board (WTB) approved 4* or 5* cottage,
organised through
Bala
Cottage Breaks, they will be responsible for looking after
themselves, albeit with adult supervision. Routine daily chores like
washing up, washing bed linen and cricket gear, making meals, handling
and being responsible for money and weekly budgets, shopping hoovering up
etc will all be the responsibility of the youngsters. If the chores
don't get done to the expected standard, the daily activates do not take
place. Simple!
All cricket coaching staff are
ECB CRB clear, have 1st4sport safe guarding and protecting children
certificates (SPC) and are first aid (FA) trained. They are all Level 3
ECB coaches and ECB coach tutors and assessors, some are ECB Coach
Education FBT & IV's (field based trainers and internal verifiers) All
support staff are ECB CRB clear and hold SPC and FA. All activities are
through recognised centres with WTB approval, all checked by Sports
Mentoring for all qualifications and insurance. Proof of documentation
will be available on request. Young person to carer ratio to be 2 - 1 at
all times.
We are looking at two age
groups, 11 to 13 and 14 to 16 and over, male or female but not mixed. Duration of
breaks will be 3 or 5 days (2 or 4 nights) and travel can be included
from pick up points. Parents are actively encouraged to come along, but
must be CRB cleared first and not expect to 'work' with their own
children!!
